Where Is The Severe Weather?


Since severe weather is kicking up we wanted to start a new segment called where is the severe weather to give you information on the possibility of severe weather each day.  Today's severe weather will most likely be along the gulf coast states from Louisiana to northern parts of Florida.  The big threat will be damaging winds and possibly a isolated tornado.



The Rain Returns....

Forecast:

Rain chances will increase as we go through the day across East Tennessee with mostly sunny skies and highs in the lower 60s.  There will be a good chance of rain and slight chance of a thunderstorm tonight with lows in the upper 40s.  Some clearing will come for your Wednesday with highs in the lower to mid 60s.  Clouds linger for you Wednesday night with lows in the upper 40s.

This Day In History:

Thunderstorms hit the area in 1993.  There were several reports of golfball sized hail and that included the Knoxville area.

Temperatures in the lower 30s to start off your day, but we will warm up into the lower to mid 60s with mostly sunny conditions.  Another chance of rain enters the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday.

Not Much Severe Weather....

This system does not appear to be producing the widespread severe weather as we anticipated, but we have have seen a few warnings prompted out of this system.  It does look like a cool down for Sunday and Sunday night with lows Monday in the lower to mid 30s.

As stated last night we are seeing the first batch of precipitation moving in this morning.  Expect that area to move through and the better chance of thunderstorms will be this afternoon and evening with the low pressure and cold front.  Right now the main threat will be damaging winds and large hail.  There could also be isolated tornadoes with this system.  Remember to keep monitoring local news outlets and Internet for the latest on this potentially dangerous storm system.

Severe Weather Special Report:

Looks like our first major outbreak of sever weather is possible tomorrow as a strong cold front and area of low pressure continue to track toward East Tennessee.  Currently the severe weather will most likely hit the East Tennessee Area in the late afternoon and late evening hours tomorrow.  This forecast will be fine tuned tomorrow and we should have a better idea on timing.  We have the possibility of seeing some shower and thunderstorms early in the day, but it does not appear that activity will be severe.  Keep it here at ETWeather Blog for the latest on this dangerous weather system.

Forecast Discussion:

Today expect slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm with highs in the lower to mid 60s.  Tonight the chances of showers and thunderstorms increase with lows in the lower 50s.  Saturday good chance of showers and thunderstorms with highs in the lower 70s.  Some of these storms could be severe Saturday and Saturday night.  Saturday night Showers and thunderstorms continue with lows in the upper 40s.

Cooler Sunday night with lows in the 30s but nice warm up for Monday with highs in the upper 60s.

Moderate To Heavy Rain This Morning....

Forecast Discussion:

We are beginning to see some moderate to heavy rain move across East Tennessee this morning with the approaching cold front.  This activity may prompt some advisories or even warnings.  The temperatures today will be in the lower to mid 60s.  Tonight expect the rain activity to clear out with upper 40s.  Friday the chances of shower return with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s.  Friday night we could see some showers and thunderstorms with lows in the lower to mid 50s.

Saturday could be interesting with a chance of severe weather.  Right now the best chance appears to be Saturday morning.  We will be monitoring this forecast as information becomes available.

The Tri-State tornado formed in Missouri and tracked 219 miles into Indiana in 1925.  It caused 619 deaths.
